MD/MPH student finds residency match
A Penn State College of Medicine MD/MPH student received his residency destination during the 2018 Match Day celebration. Tony Lin, who will be specializing in Diagnostic Radiology, was matched with Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut.
The MD/MPH degree is a five-year joint degree program in Hershey that offers medical students advanced, hands-on experience in public health.
“The Master of Public Health degree was instrumental in teaching me in depth aspects of the health care system such as population health, the socioecological model, and insurance,” said Lin. “This has prepared me to critically evaluate health care policies and understand its impact on the general population. Throughout the interview season, I've had many people ask me about my MPH experience. With my additional degree, I will integrate the concepts I've learned into my future practice as a medical physician.”
The Match Day event marked the culmination of a process that began months ago as students visited and evaluated residency programs – while the programs simultaneously evaluated them. It coincided with similar Match Day events at medical schools across the country.
